American Photo Awards Ceremony

Sophia's Drama, Act I
This image of my youngest daughter Sophia ended up winning an honorable mention at the American Photo "Images of the Year Competition." I'd never been to anything like the award ceremony, it was great. Here are some images of the event.. The Gallery event featured prints of the grand prize and category winners as well as a video projection of all the images that made it into the special issue. The event took place on Dec 6th at Splashlight Studios in New York.
There were over 4,000 entries and 83 images made it into the Special Jan/Feb Issue, "Images of the Year Competition," that will be on shelves for the next two months. American Photo has a circulation of about a quarter million so I'm very excited. You can find my image on page 74.
Here is the online article from American Photo's website. If you click on the photo gallery my image 42 of 83.
Some of the category award winners included well known photographers like Annie Leibovitz and Michael Grecco. Who knows how much money, influence, and time it takes to set up some of their photographs? One of the photographers that I meet at the awards ceremony was Adam Makarenko, who was a co-winner in the Personal Work category. He ended up creating his set in his bedroom and took the award winning photograph with a cheap point and shoot camera.
